EBRSO: DNA, shell casings connect suspect to murder
BATON ROUGE - Investigators arrested a Baton Rouge man in connection with a shooting last month that killed one person and injured another.
Casey Rayborn Hicks with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said deputies arrested Gary Davis, 22, on July 12 for the shooting which happened early the morning of June 24.
Hicks said Davis is accused of shooting and killing Jarvis Nelson, 22, who was found dead inside a vehicle on Sarasota Drive. Deputies later found out another victim in the shooting was taken to a local hospital.
According to investigators, Davis and Nelson were involved in an ongoing dispute which led to the shooting. Detectives said they found an assault rifle at Davis' home when they searched it July 12, and Davis fled from them on foot. He was arrested a short time later.
Hicks said the State Police Crime Lab matched the weapon to shell casings found at the crime scene, and matched DNA found on the weapon to Davis.
Davis faces first degree murder and attempted first degree murder charges in connection with the shooting, as well charges of resisting arrest and being a felon in possession of a weapon.
