EBRSO: Deputy attacked while breaking up dog fight
BATON ROUGE - Law enforcement said a sheriff's deputy was attacked while trying to break up a dog fight Wednesday morning, and the charging dog was shot and killed.
EBRSO said a patrolling deputy responded to a scene at a Metairie Drive residence where two unrestrained German Shepherds were attacking a poodle that was tied up outside.
Neighbors said there were small children in the house but deputies later said no one was home at the time of the incident, according to law enforcement.
A deputy said he was charged while he tried to get the dogs to stop attacking, and the animal was shot and killed.
The other German Shepherd was captured by Animal Control and taken to the parish shelter, according to deputies.
Animal Control captured two other aggressive and unrestrained dogs in the area belonging to the same person and said the owner will more than likely face several charges.
Correction: An earlier version of the story said the deputy was bitten, which was not the case. We regret the error.
