EBRSO arrests drive-by suspects after chase
BATON ROUGE - Deputies said after a pursuit they arrested two men who are wanted in connection with a drive-by shooting that occurred on Sunday.
EBRSO detectives said they investigated a shooting that occurred on Sunday in the 5800 block of Denova St. where a vehicle pulled up and two men inside opened fire on the crowd. Three adults were struck, but the injuries were not life-threatening according to deputies.
Deputies said they observed the suspect's vehicle leaving a business on Siegen Ln. shortly after midnight on Monday morning and the vehicle fled at high speed. The chase ended when deputies said the suspect's vehicle crashed into a parking lot on Sam Rushing Rd. Detectives said they found two firearms on the ground near the vehicle.
Vernell Lockett, 18, and a 16-year-old male were arrested. Authorities said Lockett admitted to shooting his gun from the front passenger seat of the vehicle, but that he was not trying to hit anyone.
Lockett and the 16-year-old are charged with five counts of attempted first degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. The minor faces additional charges for driving the car in the chase, according to law enforcement.
