BATON ROUGE- The East Baton Rouge Parish School System has a new leader this morning. Warren Drake worked as a consultant in May, served as acting superintendent in June, and today he officially begins his term as superintendent.

Before coming to Baton Rouge, Drake was the superintendent for the Zachary School System. While he was there Zachary became the number one school district in the state. Now, he's hoping to have a similar effect in East Baton Rouge.

"We have some outstanding teachers and leaders here in East Baton Rouge," said Drake. "I think what I can do is bring together a new philosophy of one team, one mission."

Drake says he wants to hold everybody at the schools accountable for educating the students.

"It's a philosophy of helping to empower those people on that campus to be owners of that campus," said Drake. "We have to serve our customers which are our students, their parents, and every citizen of East Baton Rouge Parish.

Drake has already made some changes to the way the schools operate. He says he's trying to make the schools operate as efficiently as possible.

"We're trying to eliminate positions that are not directly working with children," said Drake. "There are certain positions that you have to have, but as we're looking through this we're seeing positions that are not really necessary."

Drake says he also hopes to see the community get involved with the schools during his time as superintendent. The school year starts on August 6th.
