EBR Schools issue statement on decision to remain open
BATON ROUGE - All East Baton Rouge Parish School System school sites and offices opened at their regular time today.
The decision to hold classes today was made after the School System participated in a conference call with the East Baton Rouge Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness late yesterday afternoon. During that call, a Chief Meteorologist indicated that the brunt of the wintery weather could affect the metro Baton Rouge area later this afternoon, after students are let out of school.
School System staff continued to monitor the weather situation throughout the night. In addition, staff from the School System’s Transportation Department were checking street conditions at 3:30 this morning to ensure streets were safe for travel.
Although many offices and schools were closed today, the School System felt confident that our students could be transported safely to school and returned home safely before the possible wintery weather impacted the area this evening.
District Officials will continue to monitor the weather situation throughout the day and remain in communication with the Office of Emergency Preparedness. Should schools be canceled tomorrow, Friday, February 4, the district will make every effort to contact parents and students about the decision in a timely manner.
