BATON ROUGE- Catholic school students may have to get up earlier to catch the bus.
East Baton Rouge Parish School Board President Barbara Freiberg tells News 2 the Diocese of Baton Rouge is requesting the change to help the East Baton Rouge School System save money. The district was originally thinking of starting Catholic school classes later in the school day to accommodate a budget-cutting, bus schedule change. The school board has to approve the deal.
"I am sure there are a lot of parents that will like the earlier start time. I know there are parents who will prefer the later start time. I don't know, at the end of the day, if you make up for that. But I do know, at the end of the day, that the Catholic principals felt this was something they could work with their parents on," said Freiberg.
Schools will start about 45 minutes earlier when the change is okay'd.
