BATON ROUGE - School system officials have issued a health alert for students with respiratory problems after smoke arrived from wildfires in New Orleans.
Officials advised principals to keep students who have asthma, heart or lung problems, or any kind of breathing deficiency inside school buildings Wednesday.
Some individual schools chose to keep all students inside, whether they have a condition or not.
School officials will continue to monitor the air quality situation and keep schools informed of any changes to the alert.
