EBR School Board takes first step toward new Progress Elementary
BATON ROUGE- The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board on Thursday voted to start looking for architects to design a new Progress Elementary.
The new school is part of a 10-year tax-plan for school construction around the parish that's short on money.
Superintendent John Dilworth wanted to scrap plans for the new school, and even close the school altogether, to make up for the short-fall. But the community turned out in droves in October to beg the district to keep their promise.
Dilworth decided two weeks ago to do just that, and Thursday night the board did their part with the vote.
There's no timeline for a ground-breaking. Dilworth plans to make more suggestions on how to deal with the tax-plan shortfall at next month's school board meeting.
