BATON ROUGE - After success last year which generated around $191,000 in fines, city leaders want to keep the city jail running 24 hours a day.
Councilman Mike Walker will ask the East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council to grant $50,000 for another misdemeanor jail trial run to show it's effectiveness and clear outstanding warrants.
"When it was announced that the jail was open 24/7, the lines to the courthouse were evident because people knew they had warrants," said East Baton Rouge Constable Reggie Brown.
During the trial period eight months ago, 3,600 warrants were cleared and nearly 350 were arrested for outstanding warrants and kept in city jail.
