EBR major crimes down in 2010
BATON ROUGE - Major crimes in East Baton Rouge Parish fell by more than eight percent last year, according to numbers released by the sheriff's office today.
They reported an overall decrease of 732 major crimes in the parish when compared to 2009. Crimes against people were down more than 21 percent, while crimes against property were down seven percent.
Major crimes include murder, negligent homicide, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, vehicle theft and arson.
EBRSO spokesperson Casey Hicks said major reported crimes had increased 2.11 percent in 2009, after seeing a decrease of 10.46 percent in 2008.
