BATON ROUGE - City-parish and hospital officials signed a letter of intent today that makes official plans to sell the former Woman's Hospital campus to East Baton Rouge Parish.
As News 2 told you Monday, the city-parish plans to turn the 24-acre site into a public safety complex. It would include the new home for the Baton Rouge Police Department.
The sale would cost the city-parish $10 million for the entire complex. Mayor-President Kip Holden said in a press release the deal "is almost too good to pass up".
"Preliminary estimates are that it could cost as much to convert the hospital to office space that can be used by the police department," Mayor Holden said. "But even if we spend a total of $20 million, that's a fraction of the cost of constructing a new headquarters facility."
Holden will introduce the proposed purchase at the next Metro Council meeting on Wed., Dec. 12.
