EBR Council on Aging to offer senior aquatic program
BATON ROUGE - The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging announced on Wednesday a partnership with UnitedHealthcare to open a senior center and aquatic exercise program on Granada Drive in Baton Rouge.
With a grand opening date of Jan. 22 at 11 a.m., the Homewood Aquatic Center will be located at 3653 Granada Drive. The building was donated by the Homewood Civic Association to the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging back in 2008, and the past year has been dedicated to significant renovations in order to meet ADA compliance.
The facility will offer unique UnitedHealthcare programming with a senior wellness and prevention focus in addition to offering a daily hot meal to seniors 60 years of age and older. Also, the site will feature aquatic therapy, recreation, water safety education and swimming lessons for senior citizens.
With more than 85,000 seniors in East Baton Rouge Parish alone, the EBR Council on Aging strives to serve the growing population of senior residents through their "Meals on Wheels" program and other independence-sustaining programs.
