East Baton Rouge: Beyond Bricks
BATON ROUGE- Community leaders are continuing their efforts to breathe new life into the public school system. The group, Beyond Bricks, spent months researching what the community wants and needs from their public schools. Now, they're sharing what they've found in an attempt to help move the system forward.
In their research, the group breaks down facts about schools, from demographics and social needs to subject matter and administration. They're lobbying for passionate teachers who care about their students and the subjects they teach.
Parents are also asking schools to make it easier for them to get involved, by bringing strong schools closer to home. Beyond Bricks says it will take a group effort on an administrative level and on the home front to make changes happen.
"This is a district that has the right stuff to move forward," said East Baton Rouge Superintendent, Bernard Taylor. "Once change happens, the students will accrue the most benefit, and that is what's important."
There are four Beyond Bricks assemblies coming up in East Baton Rouge.
