GONZALES - Early voting is proving popular around the capitol area, with thousands turning out to vote ahead of Nov. 6.

Ascension and Livingston parishes both reported long lines at their early voting locations. As of Saturday evening, both parishes saw more than 5,000 citizens vote early.

Voting officials want people to know if they are in line at 6 p.m. at any early voting location, they will be allowed to vote. People will not be allowed to join lines starting at 6 p.m., and will be asked to come back at the next opportunity.

For more information about this year's election and voting procedures, visit our Election Center web page and the Secretary of State's Geaux Vote website.
