E. Feliciana tax renewal to be on upcoming ballot
CLINTON - This week the East Feliciana Parish School Board voted to put three tax renewals on the ballot.
The taxes up for renewal are a 17 mill property tax and two 1 cent sales taxes. Most of the money gotten from the taxes will go toward salaries and benefits for teachers as well as maintenance and operation of schools.
Superintendent Carlos Sam told News 2 it's very important for the school system that the taxes be renewed because if not, it could pose a problem.
"It would create a very hard way of us having the ability to recruit the best qualified teachers for our students," said Sam.
Superintendent Sam also pointed out that their main objective is to make sure students are getting the quality education they need.
"The objective is always to put the best teachers in front of our students," noted Sam.
Voting will take place October 24.
