Dueling agendas for Port Allen meeting tonight
PORT ALLEN - A special council meeting is scheduled tonight for Port Allen City Council to talk about Mayor Deedy Slaughter's proposed budget.
However, there are questions about whose agenda they'll be following. Two agendas were posted in City Hall yesterday: one produced by the council, the other by Mayor Slaughter.
This week a legislative auditor's report revealed there are issues with the mayor's salary, which city council members say she increased without their approval. They also said she continued to issue herself direct deposit checks even though the money allocated for her salary has been used up.
City council members sued the mayor yesterday to force her to return the money, and asked a judge to rule on a host of other unauthorized or illegal actions they said the mayor's been taking. The state auditor's report also said Slaughter may have broken state laws with some of those actions.
News 2 will have more on tonight's meeting at 4 p.m.
