MORGAN CITY - St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert says a man from the Bayou Vista community was arrested after narcotics detectives found a bomb at a residence.

The Daily Review reports that the detectives were looking into allegations of drug activity at the residence when they found the explosive device on Thursday.

The residence and surrounding homes were evacuated. The device was safely removed after authorities contacted the Louisiana State Police Explosive Control Unit.

A 24-year-old man was booked in the case. Darryl James Perry faces a charge of manufacturing and possession of a bomb, as well as drug charges that include possession of marijuana. He was being held Friday in the St. Mary Parish Jail.
