Drug arrest turns up thousands in cash
GONZALES - Sheriff's deputies in Ascension Parish said a drug arrest led them to a stash of cash recently.
Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said deputies arrested Cyril Ezumezu Jr., 26, early Wednesday morning for marijuana charges. He said deputies later found more than $11,000 in cash at his residence.
Bacala said undercover narcotics agents purchased some marijuana from Ezumezu Wednesday, after which detectives detained him and searched his vehicle. Investigators said they found more marijuana and a handgun inside.
Narcotics agents then searched Ezumezu's residence and said they found a large amount of cash, synthetic cannabinoids, another gun and digital scales.
Bacala said Ezumezu is a convicted felon currently on probation for marijuana convictions. He was charged with distribution of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, synthetic cannabinoid possession, drug paraphernalia possession, two counts of illegal carrying of weapons and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Anyone with information on illegal drug activity in Ascension Parish should call the sheriff's office Narcotics Division at (225) 621-8355 or by texting 847411 to their anonymous tip line.
