Drivers see proposed new bridge over Amite River
CENTRAL- People took a look at a proposed new route across the Amite River Tuesday night.
Engineers revealed plans for a new bridge and roundabout at the intersection of Hooper Road and Greenwell Springs Road in East Baton Rouge. Once it crosses the river into Livingston, the highway would intersect with LA Hwy 16 plans showed.
There bridge is part of a push some are making in the area, for easier access between Central and Watson. It has been sold as one option to the proposed and controversial loop around Baton Rouge.
Drivers believe an alternate route over the Amite River will ease traffic on numerous other streets. Others believe a new road would create more headaches.
There is another meeting Wednesday at Live Oak High School concerning the project. It is set for 6 p.m.
