Driver killed in semi, SUV crash on Airline
BATON ROUGE- One person is dead after a crash on Airline Highway Wednesday night. The roadway was closed for hours as investigators worked the scene.
The wreck involved an SUV and a tanker truck.
According to State Police, the tanker pulled into westbound lanes of Airline just east of the Old Bridge. As it made a left turn onto a private drive, a vehicle headed west slammed into the tanker. The vehicle, an SUV, became wedged under the tank trailer.
Wilson Battley, Jr., 60, was killed. Battley was from Port Allen.
The driver of the semi was identified by State Police as Alvester Moore, Jr.. Moore is from Arkansas.
Battley was wearing a seatbelt, but was killed in the crash.
"Driver impairment on the part of Moore, Jr. is unknown at this time; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from him to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis," a trooper said in a news release early Thursday morning.
State Police said the crash is still under investigation.
