SLIDELL - Deputies said a driver was blinded by the sun when she hit a school crossing guard in St. Tammany Parish this morning.
It happened outside the North Shore High School while the driver was dropping off children at the school. A sheriff's office spokesperson said the driver, Jacqueline Smith, hit the crossing guard hard enough to send him over the hood of her SUV.
Smith told deputies she was blinded by the sun's glare and couldn't see the person when she turned onto Panther Drive from Highway 190 East.
EMS took the crossing guard to Slidell Memorial Hospital, where he's being checked out.
Deputies determined the glare was a factor, and didn't give Smith any citations.
