BATON ROUGE - Anticipation is high as residents dream of winning big. Tonight's jackpot has risen to $320 million and the number will continue to grow as more people buy tickets.
Many residents are visiting area gas stations to purchase their chance at winning.
"You can't win if you don't play... and I want to win," said Powerball player J'da Palmer.
It's the second time this year the Powerball jackpot has topped $300 million. The jackpot would pay out around $150 million after taxes.
Some people are already planning how they would spend the cash.
"I'm going to give out a lot of it to my family," said Troy Allen. "I'll make some donations to local charities, and give [the cashier] a million dollars for selling [the ticket] to me."
Despite the chance at winning big, many players keep a level head about the potential winnings. Palmer said she'll share the money with her family and spend most of her time lounging by the pool. Powerball player Willie Allen also says his life wouldn't change much.
"I would take care of my family, best I can, and just keep it real after that," said Allen.
The drawing will be at 10 p.m. tonight. If no one wins, there will be another drawing Saturday.
Powerball is a national lottery played in 42 states.
