BATON ROUGE - Local cosmetic surgeon Dr. J. Anthony Stephens visited News 2 at 4 on Thursday to talk about surgical procedures to improve the appearance of the eyelids.

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgery performed on either the upper and lids, or even both. The benefits of the procedure can repair functional problems with your eyelids, but they can also simply rejuvenate the overall look of your eyes and the surrounding area. Dr. Stephens says that blepharoplasty can treat:

-Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision
-Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids
-Bags under the eyes
-Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris
-Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

Dr. Stephens says one of the most frequent questions they receive from callers at his practice relates to eyes and eyebrows for both med and women. The surgeon says "periorbital" or eyelid surgery is one of the most satisfying procedures he performs because of the dramatic and highly noticeable appearance of the results.

With the holidays just around the corner, Dr. Stephens points out that the cost of this type of surgery makes it an attractive option for a gift that will keep on giving in the form of a more youthful look. He says to achieve this youthful boost, there are both surgical and non-surgical procedures to meet the demands of any budget, along with "no scar" lower eye lid surgery that is increasingly popular.
