BATON ROUGE - Work on a sewer line has cost one woman her back yard.

Maggie Fahr says the Department of Public Works started on the sewer line in her back yard on June 19th and told her the work would be done in a couple of weeks.

But it's mid August and her yard is still lined with the tracks of heavy equipment.

To make things worse, her favorite tree had to be cut down to access the sewer line.

"My gosh I couldn't even stay here and hear it, and hear the saws going. It was horrible. It was really horrible," said Fahr.

David Guillory with DPW completely agrees that the work had taken too long. He says workers initially tried to save the tree, and that's one factor in the slow down in work.

"In this case, if there was an issue with the tree, we should have gotten a contractor in to get the tree out in a day or two, make the repair, and been gone, and that's what we're going to do next time," said Guillory.

Fahr's been assured that DPW will be back in her yard to finish up the work bright and early tomorrow morning.
