WBRZ - Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE - Downed power lines shut down I-10 in both directions for several hours this afternoon at the Picardy exit in Baton Rouge.

The lines came down after a severe thunderstorm with hail moved through the area this afternoon, also knocking out power to more than 5,000 people in the Greater Baton Rouge area.

Traffic was at a standstill while crews dealt with the line. Authorities turned around vehicles and had them go back down on-ramps to try and detour around the closed portion of the interstate.
