Double murderer gets life in prison
AMITE- Giles McGhee, 53, will serve life in prison for killing two people in Hammond two years ago.
A jury found McGhee guilty in February and he was sentenced this week.
Karum Smith, 40, was found shot along with Tamica Muse, 36, at a house that belonged to Muse. Muse previously dated McGhee and was dating Smith when the shooting happened.
Muse's daughter, who was home at the time, heard the gunshots and hid in a closet and called 911. She identified the voice of the killer as Giles McGhee and testified at the trial.
The shooting happened near Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. McGhee was caught after a chase near Central, in East Baton Rouge Parish after the murder.
McGhee must serve his sentence without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
