BATON ROUGE- The La. Department of Transportation and Development is geared up for icy roads. Crews loaded trucks full of sand and made sure equipment was working properly.
While DOTD can't predict what the weather will bring, it's preparing for the worst.
"Our top priority is always I-10, I-12 and the Baton Rouge area to try to keep those open. However, we will close anything that's not safe for the public to ride on," DOTD representative Amber Hebert said.
DOTD is partnering with state and local agencies to make sure drivers stay safe. La. State Police recommend drivers stay off the roads if they get icy.
"The biggest mistake people make is if they hit a patch of ice or their car starts to slide they immediately panic and apply the breaks, that's the worst thing you can do," Trooper Russell Graham said.
