BATON ROUGE - State transportation officials marked the opening of six lanes of traffic today as part of the ongoing widening of I-10 in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The Department of Transportation and Development said work was recently completed on the widening between Siegen Lane and Highland Road. It's part of the $315 million "Geaux Wider" project to widen interstates around the parish.

The $60 million project added another lane in each direction of travel, and involved work on bridges and overpasses at the Kansas City Southern Railroad and Highland Road.

DOTD also said work should finish this summer on the I-12 widening from Juban Road to Walker. They also plan to begin design work for three more I-10 widenings, which would stretch the six lanes of travel from Highland Road south to La. 22 in Ascension Parish.
