DOTD: new bridge could be beneficial to traffic
BATON ROUGE- Traffic leaders said they'll likely look at traffic counts and the other data when studying the feasibility of a new bridge over the Mississippi River.
The Department of Transportation and Development talked about the proposal Thursday, a day after state lawmakers backed a resolution requesting an additional river crossing. The resolution asks that the bridge be built in Iberville Parish.
"Certainly, it can be beneficial," DOTD spokesman Rodney Mallett said. "But, to give you specifics would be way too early in the ball game," he said.
The state's capital outlay provides funding for the study.
A new bridge could cost nearly $1 billion.
