Donate Mardi Gras, St. Patty's Day beads for intellectual disabilities
BATON ROUGE - Parade goers will take to the streets of Baton Rouge tomorrow for the annual Wearin' of the Green Parade. If you do not want to add to your mountain of beads accumulated during the Carnival season, there's a way for you to donate all of them for a great cause.
"This year we've done several thousand pounds of beads for the Spanish Town Mardi Gras Parade and some of the local parades," Christine Dunlevy with ARC Baton Rouge explains.
This is the 3rd year of Arc Baton Rouge's bead recycling program. The beads you donate are re-packaged and resold at cheaper prices than you'll find at most places. All proceeds go to helping people with intellectual disabilities.
"It actually goes back to the individuals who are working on the beads," Dunlevy said this morning on 2une In. "We're just providing them a place to work on the beads and have their own little job in our facility.
ARC Baton Rouge will be collecting beads Saturday in City Park in Dalrymple. If you can't make it then, visit their website for other bead donation sites.
