Donaldsonville council to redraw districts
DONALDSONVILLE - City council members have approved a proposal to redraw council district lines, setting the stage for a vote on the matter late this month.
The council has worked during the last month to redraw district lines according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data, as required each decade.
Jay Vicknair, of the Gonzales consulting firm CORA, told the council during its Tuesday meeting that the proposed plan calls for slight alterations to four of the five council districts.
Vicknair said the changes are required in order to meet minority voting benchmarks and to bring each district within a five percent deviation above or below an ideal figure of 1,487 residents per district.
