Businesses in Donaldsonville are open again, after days of being under a boil advisory.

The boil order was lifted for the Donaldsonville area of Ascension Parish around 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Water quality tests determined water was safe to drink for the 4,000 customers served by Peoples Water Co.

A transformer failed Tuesday, causing water outages across the city.

Several restaurants and businesses had to close their doors. Many lost thousands of dollars. Donaldsonville's mayor said water problems caused an economic impact on the city.

"Restaurants had to close, so that's money and tax revenue lost," said Mayor Leroy Sullivan.

The boil order is still in effect for people living in the communities of Darrow, McCall, Modeste and Smoke Bend. They get their water from other providers. Test results should come back Friday morning.
