Domestic shooting leaves one female dead in Baker, suspect in custody
BAKER - One woman is dead after a shooting occurred Sunday morning in the city of Baker.
The shooting happened in the 2400 block of McHugh Road around 4:25 a.m. Sunday.
Police have identified the shooting victim as 23-year-old Cherish Smith. Authorities say Smith suffered a gunshot wound to her stomach. She was transported to Lane Memorial by a private vehicle where she later died.
Rhykem Rogers is in custody following the incident. Officials say Rogers and Smith lived together, and have two young children (3 years old and two-weeks old). Police say the shooting appears to be domestic-related. Rogers is charged with negligent homicide and illegal discharge of a weapon.
The investigation is still underway.
