CLARKE COUNTY, Ga. - A man was arrested by police in Georgia after officers said he became violent when his wife after she allegedly made him a grilled cheese sandwich with one slice of cheese too many.

Officers said 55-year-old James DePaola was booked on charges of obstruction of a 911 call and criminal trespass/damage to property after his 12-year-old daughter contacted police.

A domestic disturbance had unfolded at the DePaola residence with the man screaming in his wife’s face after he became “very upset and animated with the grilled cheese incident,” his wife said. Apparently, she had made him a sandwich that included three slices of American cheese instead of the standard two, thus making it “too cheesy.”

When their couple's daughter reached 911 from her mother’s cell phone, she said her dad hit her mom and had pulled the phone out of the wall.

James DePaola admitted that he ripped the landline phone out of the wall because he didn’t want his wife to call 911 for a “stupid” reason, according to investigators. While the man's wife, 51-year-old Michele DePaoloa, told officers he had not hit her, she said the only reason he didn’t is because he didn’t want to go back to jail.

She said her husband has a history of violent and abusive behavior that has involved him being arrested and served with a restraining order in the past, according to WPXI-TV.

DePaola was booked into the Clarke County jail.
