Dobard named new Recovery School District Superintendent
BATON ROUGE - There is a new leader for the state's struggling schools.
Patrick Dobard was named the new superintendent of the Recovery School District by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education today, taking the place of the new BESE Superintendent John White.
The nomination came from Superintendent White after he was granted authority by the BESE members.
For the past nine months, Dobard has served as Deputy Superintendent of the RSD under White.
His appointment does come with some controversy.
3rd BESE District Representative Lottie Beebe felt by allowing White to select Dobard the board is denying other individuals the opportunity to apply.
However, White has the power to appoint who he wants as the leader of the RSD.
Board members say they will hold White accountable for his decision.
