Dixon inmate caught after twilight search
JACKSON- After twelve hours on the run, chase teams nabbed Jeremiah Benoit just miles away from Dixon Correctional Institute.
The Department of Corrections thinks Benoit escaped from the prison through a fence with razor wire, while working kitchen detail.
"It was a double fenced and they did have some cameras, so I'm not exactly sure what other features were involved at that time, but they did have the tower guards as well so, there were lots of safety features built in," said Pam Laborde, with the Department of Corrections, "So that's what we're gonna be looking at, seeing whether or not it was our equipment that failed or if it was human error."
Benoit was serving time for kidnapping, burglary and escape.
The Department of Corrections used their First Call program to alert residents in the area. If you'd like to be added to the alert visit www.doc.la.gov for more information.
