BATON ROUGE- A car wash in Baton Rouge is shut down Monday after authorities say its chemicals are dyeing Wards Creek red.

Benny's Car Wash on Essen Lane will be shut down until officials with the Department of Environmental Quality and Department of Public Works figure out what is in the water.

The source of the red, pinkish color is coming from a storm water runoff pipe.

Authorities say the pink foaming agent used in the car wash's soap is consistent with what has been found in the water thus far.

It only affects about 600 feet of the creek which runs through the parish and eventually Bayou Manchac.

It doesn't affect drinking water and has not been deemed dangerous.
