DUTCHTOWN- Ascension Parish deputies arrested a couple from Violet, after patrols spotted their suspicious van stealing diesel early Tuesday morning.

Deputies charged Brandon Angelety, 32, and his wife, Jairomeora Angelety, 30, with felony theft of diesel fuel.

Investigators said the pair were first spotted on surveillance footage at gas station in Gonzales, stealing 500 gallons of diesel.

"They were looking for the van because they hit the fuel stop in Gonzales, 5 or 6 weeks ago, so they were looking for it, I was just lucky they found them here," said Cathy Fouret, the manager at the Dutchtown Market, where deputies spotted the couple.

Investigators said the couple had about 200 gallons of diesel in several containers when they were found.

Fouret said the husband and wife team were able to crack into the fuel pump, using a key, enter in a special code on a pin pad and then pump gas for free.

"They had to have some kind of knowledge of the inside of the dispenser, because there's a pin pad with codes," said Fouret, "it's like a generic code that all companies use for their dispensers, we've changed ours, but he had to know the code and how it worked, to make the dispenser go on manual fuel and pump whatever he wanted."

The pair are suspected for other diesel thefts in the parish and could get additional charges.
