BATON ROUGE- The Department of Health and Hospitals is stepping up its game when it comes to food inspections.

The department has overhauled the entire program including the amount of times restaurants are inspected.

This comes after the program received backlash last year for letting some restaurants go years without inspections. But that's all changed.

"Feel very confident that every restaurant is being inspected as it should. Consumers have a very committed workforce at DHH that's keeping them safe," said J.T. Lane, with DHH.

The department has also made it easy for consumers to see how their favorite restaurant faired. Inspections are available within seven days on its website.

DHH also adopted four key components to abide by which include a centralized and standardized reporting process which the state didn't have before.

This will allow the inspectors to be on one accord and be able to do more inspections.
