BATON ROUGE- State Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Bruce Greenstein's confirmation hearing today resulted in a major debate with lawmakers.
As part of the hearing lawmakers blasted him for withholding an announcement involving the state Medicaid contract. He later released the information in the meeting, confirming that the contract went to CNSI, his former employer.
Greenstein said he had the same type of talks with all of the applicants early in the process, and that he later removed himself from the process and did not play a part in the selection process. Greenstein says he kept the information secret as part of advice from department attorneys.
Lawmakers say even if there were no issues, the way the situation was handled puts a cloud over the department and the administration.
