Detroit's Scherzer looks to stay perfect
UNDATED - Detroit right-hander Max Scherzer is out to get his 14th win of the season tonight against no defeats.
Scherzer, who is the first big leaguer since Roger Clemens in 1986 to start a season 13-0, can equal the record Clemens set that season with a win tonight in Cleveland. He beat the Indians twice in May with eight-inning outings. Cleveland won the third game of the four-game series with the Tigers yesterday and with a win tonight would move to a game and a half back of the Tigers in the American League Central.
The top two teams in the National League West, the Diamondbacks and Dodgers, are squaring off tonight in Phoenix. The DBacks start the day with a 4 ½ game lead over the Dodgers who are sending six-game winner Zack Greinke to the mound against 1-2 Randall Delgado. Arizona enters the game with a five-game winning streak.
A pair of division leaders are meeting tonight in Pittsburgh as the National League Central leading Pirates play host to the first-place Oakland A's of the American League West. The Bucs are tied with the Cardinals for first while the A's have a half-game lead over the Rangers.
