ST. CHARLES PARISH - A Destrehan High School teacher is facing multiple charges after she was accused of having sex with a student, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

26-year-old Kimberly Naquin, a Destrehan High geography teacher, was booked on charges of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, a felony charge of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a female student and fugitive from another agency.

Sheriff’s deputies began the investigation into Naquin on Wednesday after allegations emerged that a female student and a female teacher were having a sexual relationship. Investigators say the information came from a family member of the student.

St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives interviewed the student who claimed she had a sexual relationship with Naquin. The student indicated that the relationship began in September 2014 and continued until August 2015.

The student said most of the sexual encounters happened at Naquin’s home in Kenner, but there were other incidents that happened at the high school itself and at a home in Destrehan.

“The school system is fully cooperating with the sheriff’s office," said a statement from Stevie Crovetto, director of public information of St. Charles Parish Public Schools. "The teacher has been suspended without pay in accordance with district policy and procedures pending the outcome of an investigation. This is a personnel issue; therefore, no other information will be released at this time.”

Naquin is currently being held without bond at Nelson Coleman Corrections facility in Killona, according to WWL-TV in New Orleans.

The woman also faces a charge in Kenner where police have an arrest warrant for 10 counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

WWL-TV reports that this is not the first time allegations of a sexual relationship between faculty and students at Destrehan High have come to light. In 2014, two other teachers, Shelley Dufresne and Rachel Respess, were both arrested in connection with having sex with students.

Dufresne faces a felony count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile for her alleged sexual encounter with a young man at a home in Montz. She later pleaded guilty to felony obscenity for having sex with teh student, but her conviction was changed to a misdemeanor.

WWL-TV says Dufresne and Respess could still face charges in Jefferson Parish related to a three-way sexual encounter with the same 16-year-old student. Local police said the encounter took place after a Destrehan High School football game in Jefferson. The women were booked in Jefferson Parish, but the district attorney has not determined whether or not to file formal charges.
