Baton Rouge – University officials announced Monday that handlers will attempt to load LSU’s live tiger mascot, Mike VI, into his trailer for the first three home games of the 2015 football season.

Despite not attending any home games in 2014, LSU President F. King Alexander said that the university will still try to load the tiger into his trailer for the traditional LSU football pregame routine.

“Mike’s behavior last year demonstrated that he was unwilling to load for the games,” Alexander said. “We hope he will come to the games this year, but we are prepared to revisit our decision in early October if he chooses not to load.”

Alexander said other options include leaving Mike in his habitat for the fans to view rather than including the live Tiger in pre-game activities at Tiger Stadium.

Mike VI has attended 32 of 57 home games since 2007. In 2008, he attended all but the first home football game.

“Mike’s health and wellbeing are always our top priority,” said Alexander. “We are grateful to our School of Veterinary Medicine for the extraordinary care they provide our beloved mascot.”

LSU’s first three home games will be played against McNeese State (Sept 5, 6:30 p.m.), Auburn (Sept 19, 2:30 p.m.) and Eastern Michigan (Oct. 3).
