MANSFIELD - The North DeSoto High School head boys' basketball coach has been arrested on charges relating to inappropriate behavior with a 14-year-old female student.

DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Lt. Robert Davidson tells The Times 46-year-old Robert L. Bender, of Gloster, was arrested at the school on Thursday. He was booked into the parish Detention Center on a charge of indecent behavior with a juvenile and on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. No bond has been set.

Bender, who has been employed since August 2007, submitted his resignation last month. Superintendent Cade Brumley said his departure was to be effective in May when classes concluded for the year.

Davidson declined to release additional details about the case against Bender.
