BATON ROUGE - Department of Environmental Quality officials say they can't find the source of a strange chemical odor in the Scotlandville area of East Baton Rouge Parish.
The smell prompted evacuations Friday at Crestworth Learning Academy, Crestworth Elementary School and J.K. Haynes Elementary Charter School.
DEQ officials said they are bringing in monitoring equipment, and will place one at Crestworth Elementary.
The odor can make sensitive people feel ill. Investigators said it could be coming from the North Baton Rouge sewage treatment plant near the school.
