Deputy surprises, arrests two suspected burglars
LIVINGSTON - A Livingston Parish sheriff's deputy arrested two teens after they allegedly stole items from a U.S. Postal Jeep this weekend.
According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, a deputy saw 18-year-old Richard Stewart Jr. and 19-year-old Dustin Johnson walking down Highway 43 north of Albany Sunday morning and noticed the door on a US Postal Jeep parked at a nearby residence had been left open.
Officials said the deputy questioned the teens, who seemed nervous, and found a large number of coins, a book of stamps and an MP3 player in their possession. The deputy then woke up the postal worker, who identified the items.
Investigators said records show Stewart and Johnson have been arrested at least three times for burglary in Tangipahoa Parish and may be responsible for a string of burglaries in Albany the past few weeks.
The teens were arrested and booked in the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
