Deputy, pastor drowns while fishing
ST. FRANCISVILLE - Sheriff's deputies said a man who served as a local pastor and part-time deputy with the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office drowned while fishing Friday afternoon.
Lt. Col. Archer Lee said that search crews found the body of Earnis James in a lake near the Rosemound area.
Lee said James and another part-time deputy were fishing when James hooked a fish and fell into the water, flipping the boat. Lee said the other deputy tried to pull James back in, and that James tried to swim to shore but didn't make it.
James was a pastor at two local churches, Sherobee Baptist in St. Francisville and a church in Mississippi, and worked for the sheriff's office for 30 years. Lee said he leaves behind a wife and son, and that the son also worked as a deputy for the sheriff's office.
