Deputy: Attacker said "I never wanted that baby"
BATON ROUGE - Sheriff's deputies said a Baton Rouge man tried to kill his girlfriend's unborn child, telling her "I never wanted that baby anyway" after choking her and kicking her stomach.
Deputies obtained an arrest warrant for Darrell Johnson, 18, on suspicion of attempted second degree feticide and domestic abuse battery charges.
Investigators said Johnson's girlfriend told them that on Feb. 20 she and her boyfriend got into an argument. She said Johnson slapped her, knocking her to the ground, and then started strangling her. Deputies said he then released her, and kicked her in the stomach at least once while she was lying on the floor.
Investigators said she also told them Johnson said "I never wanted that baby anyway" as he left.
The sheriff's office said doctors were still running tests but weren't aware of any damage to the unborn child.
Anyone with information about Johnson's whereabouts should contact the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office.
