ST. FRANCISVILLE - West Feliciana Sheriff's Deputy Shane Lofton turned himself into jail today on a simple assault charge.

The deputy was recently accused of using racial slurs against African Americans during a traffic stop last week.

The simple assault charge stems from an unrelated altercation Lofton had in Avoyelles Parish. Lofton allegedly threatened to kill another off-duty deputy.

Lofton was only in jail for 20 minutes today before being released on a $5,000 bond. News 2 is reaching out to West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office for comment.
