Deputies: woman, suspect in chase knew each other
PORT ALLEN - Investigators said a man who took them on a high speed chase and was charged with simple rape and false imprisonment had a past with the woman at the center of the ordeal.
Thursday, the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said Courtney Lacey and the woman involved knew each other and she was the victim in a domestic abuse case involving Lacey unrelated to Wednesday's alleged crimes. Most recently, the pair had issues in Iberville Parish. The woman has not been identified.
In exclusive interviews with WBRZ, witnesses of the incident Wednesday in West Baton Rouge said the woman jumped from a mini van and was able to get her child out before Lacey drove away and was pursued by law enforcement.
Lacey was arrested following a 40-mile chase across the I-10 Basin Bridge. He hit spike strips at the end of the bridge, crossed into eastbound lanes and eventually stopped.
Deputies said Lacey told them the woman willingly spent the night with him at the Budget 7 motel on Highway 190.
